The Making of a "Giglee" Print

The Definition: Giglee (Zhee-Klay). The French word "Giglee" is a feminine noun that means a spray or spurt of liquid.

The Term: The term "Giglee print" connotes an elevation in printmaking technology. Images are generated from high resolution, high fidelity digital scans and printed with pigment archival quality inks onto various substrates, including canvas, watercolor paper, transparent acetates, fine art and photo-base papers. The "Giglee" printing process provides better color accuracy than other means of reproduction available today, which cannot be duplicated by other printing techniques. This produces exceptional museum quality prints, creating a whole new vibrant medium of art.

The Process: "Giglee" prints are typically created using professional 8 color to 12 color ink jet printers.

The Advantages: A tremendous advantage of "Giglee" printing is that digital images can be reproduced to almost any size and onto various medium, giving the artist the ability to customize prints for a specific client. Brilliant color and rich texture have made "Giglee" prints the reproduction of choice for artists, photographers, museums and collectors. The final product is a lush and velvety art print; one that has the feel of a fine art canvas and the look of an original painting. Under normal conditions, prints last more than 75 years. The process is not only stable, it is a departure from the toxic heritage of conventional chemical based darkroom prints and represents an environmentally responsible method of fine art printing. You therefore treat a "Giglee" print as a fine art original. Fine Art prints should not be displayed in direct sunlight. "Giglee" prints are estimated, by analysts, to grow to 15 billion (27% per year) prints in the USA by 2005.

Watercolors..."Giglee" Prints
Pigment on Watercolor Paper. A computer scans the artist's original work to produce a fine art print that has the look and feel of an original watercolor. Water-based "Archival" pigment inks are used on a 100% acid-free cotton rag watercolor paper.

There is also a generous white border on each print. (Open edition).
